Inky Origami

Yesterday's camp had the kids doing chromatography (ink separation) and origami. The origami in the picture is V's name tag–in Japanese of course. They also "dissected" a diaper to study the layers inside that turn to gel when wet and hold the liquid inside. She enjoyed day two as much as day one.

Even though she was tired afterward, she was a trooper about going straight to softball practice. Thankfully it wasn't as rainy and FREEZING as practice was earlier this week. Thank you Lord for that momentary bit of sunshine that felt like a reward for honoring that commitment!

Japanese Super Spy

V is going to an afternoon science and language camp this week. Yesterday, they learned how to make home-made invisible ink, make home-made fingerprinting kits and started learning Japanese. She can write her name and here are some of the greetings she has learned so far: (Sorry, no video just sound.)

Update: V just corrected me that she is doing "detective chemistry," not super spy science.

It's Official

H had her first team meeting for t-ball tonight. Not practice, just a team meeting. They did however get their shirts and hats. She's so excited that she's sleeping in her uniform right now.

Vocabulary

Heard at our house today from the drama girl and the carnivore:

(A school bus, which probably took a wrong turn, drove around our cul-de-sac this morning.)
V: "I had to run downstairs and see it because I was so ASTONISHED!"
K: "You were astonished?"
V: "YES! I was ASTONISHED!!"

H: "Mom, I want to be a veterinarian when I grow up. Wait. Can I eat meat if I'm a veterinarian?"
K: "Yes, you can still eat meat."
H: "Ribs too?"
K: "Yes, you can be a veterinarian and still eat ribs."
H: "OK, I want to be a veterinarian."

Weekend at the Beach

We spent the weekend at the Kelley's place in Newport having a wonderful, relaxing, fun time. My camera is going wonky again so above is one of the few pics that survived. Saturday was actually a nice day on the beach. Sunday (above) as you can see we basked in the liquid sunshine. At this point we were soaked but the girls found pockets-full of treasure as there were not many other beachcombers out. It was a perfectly timed getaway. Thank you Scott!
