It was still snowing this morning. It is beautiful and we're happy that this year will be a white Christmas. The forced slow down has been good for all. Michael has been going to work every day, making sure the roof is holding up under the 18" they have in McMinnville. Business has been good as the people that live in Mac seem to be shopping locally rather than venturing into Salem. We girls have been staying home (off the roads) playing in the snow and drinking lots of cocoa.

More Snow!
Yesterday it snowed another five inches followed by freezing rain. V stayed out late making a snow fort including snow chairs on the sides of the driveway.
M worked on what any awesome dad would do. He shoveled off the snow before the rain came ensuring that our driveway would have a nice .75" coating of ice in the morning. We have the fastest sliding driveway in the neighborhood. :)

Singing at the Capitol
After three snow days with no school this week, the weather warmed up enough for H's school to open. Today they had scheduled to sing at the capitol so it was perfect timing! Usually there are school groups scheduled all week to come and sing but they are the only ones who have shown up so far because of the snow. V's school is still closed today so she was able to come and watch too.The kids took the school bus over which was a treat for H. They were so cute and she did a great job singing her little heart out. Our other pictures didn't turn out very well so hopefully someone will share theirs with me and I'll post more then. Is it just me or does she look more like a young lady and less like my baby girl here? She's going through a growth spurt and getting taller all of the sudden.
Here you can at least see the capitol (a photo I borrowed from their website) all decked out for Christmas–the kids stood on the stairs. Hope to have more photos soon...

*Update: No one's photos turned out, must be the lighting in that large area.*

Classroom...
V wants to be a teacher when she grows up so the above is not an uncommon site at home. (She still loves school and "substantially excelled" on her state reading test this week!) H is very patient with her "teacher" and has actually learned a few things in "class." With the 3.5 year age difference, it's so great when they find games they both like to play.

Trick-or-Treat
The girls are feeling much, much better. Well enough to load up on candy. :)
They know that if they misbehave in the next few days, though. Mommy and Daddy might take away some candy. And will eat it too. Because that is the kind of difficult sacrifice a parent has to make to train up their children! Parenting is tough.

Family Pumpkin Patch Day
This is one of my favorite days of the year. Every October the four of us head to this little pumpkin patch near our house because, well it's tradition. (and they have the best cider.) They have a little hay climbing thing and a corn maze too. The girls are so used to me taking their picture when we come here they automatically pose for the camera when the see me coming.
See, like this...

Kindergarten Trip to the Pumpkin Patch
H's kindergarten class went on a field trip to the pumpkin patch last week. It was a very cold day but it didn't rain and everyone had a great time. There are now only five kids in H's class so there were more moms and grandmas than kids!
H running through the corn maze. It only had one opening so you went out the same way you came in, which was kind of odd but the kids liked it.
H and her buddy from school on the hay ride.
Of course there was a barn with chicks, horses, bunnies, small cows and sheep. The animals are so friendly by late October when they've had a million kids come through already!Tuesday, October 21, 2008

Bauman's Farm

Nana took us to Bauman's yesterday and the girls had a great time! They've added a lot since we were there last. H's favorite was the big jumping pillow thing. V's favorite was the new and improved zip line. Thanks Nana!

Forts
Last night the slumber party was in the living room and the girls actually slept in these forts made of just two chairs and blankets. I was sure they'd get uncomfortable in the middle of the night but they were determined and slept in them all night. Note the cell phone is not real. They both had fake cell phones and pretended to talk to each other on their phones for most of the evening. (sigh)M was out of town so H and I had our own slumber party in my room so she wouldn't feel left out. :)
Was there any question?

Oooh scary! Scary *and sparkly* cheetah. Rarr.

Update
It's been a very busy couple of weeks around here, thus I haven't posted for a while... So, here's a couple fun things:
V lost a tooth on Thursday:

Hannah is really liking kindergarten. Here's a some beautiful artwork she brought home:
Notice the detail of the squares on the checkerboard floor and the perspective of the table. Genius I tell you! :)

Drawing of our cat. If he would actually walk on a leash like in the drawing, he would not be at the vet right this very moment getting $345 worth of sedation and stitches. (Not kidding.)
H has also been playing in her barn. Yes, IN her barn...
